When Missing Loved Ones Becomes a Lifestyle
I grew up missing people. My male parent was a company man — a corporate nomad — so when information technology came time to move once again, we packed up and went where the career opportunities led him.
The only identify he ever declined to move was Utah. That'due south because no one in their correct mind agrees to move to Utah. (Hey, no criminal offence.)
Growing up, I missed friends, neighbors, and classmates beyond half dozen states. Relationships were temporary. Living hundreds of miles from relatives, we visited them once or twice a year. For seven years, my dad worked 2d shift and so he could climb that corporate ladder; often I missed him, too.
When I attended college, naturally it was out-of-state. Then, I landed a corporate job much like his and connected the nomadic lifestyle of corporate relocations and missing people.
Once I became a parent, still, I sought to ensure that my ain daughter didn't abound up missing people she loved. I wanted to give her the gift of beingness "from" somewhere. I wanted to give her the gift of not continually feeling loss or separation from all that was familiar.
Nosotros now alive a stone's throw from my parents and other family. Corporate nomads eventually find their oasis, and it'southward rarely at the top of the organizational ladder.
Where is your oasis?

Some prissy writing and some good tunes.
The juxtaposition of songs about real, raw actual emotion to some of the made upward nonsense apropos "micro-aggressions" on higher campuses today is startling. We used to employ things like music to cope with anxiety and depression. And then we moved to drugging nigh a whole society and now we are beginning to see a generation that act every bit if they are and then frail y'all tin't even ask where they were born for fear of hurting their feelings.
